Troop 47 Demonstration
On 10/25/2016, we performed a demonstration of our robot to the scouts of Troop 47. Our goal was to “advertise” ourselves and to recruit more people. I invited my friend Luke Chang to take a look at our team. He was pretty interested in our team. Many of our friends that we invited felt the same, and they are interested in the team. Therefore, we decided to perform a demonstration of our team to explain First Tech Challenge and our team to others. We hope through this demo, we hope that more people will know about FTC and our team. We also hope that because of this, more people who are interested will join our team. Hopefully, we will receive support from people.
One of the reasons we chose to demonstrate at the Troop 47 is that it is an organized group, with over 30 people participating. Another reason is we have three troop members in our team. Finally, the fact that the current scoutmaster is a parent of one of our team members makes it easier to get approval, but it is not one of the main reasons.
We employed multiple tactics to get people to come. We posted fliers in Starbucks (with the manager’s permission), in church(with the pastor’s permission), and in the library(with permission). We also sent out an email to Troop 47 members and posted on their web page. Finally, we notified our friends about the demo.
Our reason for choosing 10/25/16 was because it was a game night in the troop, so we hoped more people would participate. We chose 7:00 PM because it was right before the troop meeting, making it convenient.
For the robotics demonstration, we planned to show the driver-controlled section. However, we had a problem with the controller, so we could not start the Teleop. Because of this, we ran the autonomous mode, which was also damaged due to an android studio crash that caused a bit of corruption, deleting the code that allowed the gyroscope to function. The program performed well, considering it was damaged. Next, we explained about FTC and the ethos(gracious professionalism), as well as the design thinking process. We also introduced the troop to our team.
